What did you do this past week?

This past week I reviewed our group performance on the previous phase of the project to identify things that we can improve upon in our final presentation of our website. I also attended lectures this weekend and learned more about joins and refactoring through exercises on HackerRank.

What’s in your way?

Not much more! We did quite well on our last phase, so there’s not much more that we need to fix for our final phase. I will be meeting with my group early this week to discuss our plans for the video presentation we plan to do and write out a script for the 15 minutes we need to cover (which seems like a lot relative to what there is to talk about).

What will you do next week?

Next week I will be meeting with my group and discuss our plans for the video presentation we plan to do and write out the script. I will also be attending lectures to get a better understanding of the other SQL principles.

If you read it, what did you think of the What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

It is shocking to read the experiences of women in tech. Not that I was unaware of some of the experiences they go through, but more so in the severity of the issue. I took away several ways to be a better ally that I’ll list in my tip of the week section.

What was your experience of joins and refactoring? (this question will vary, week to week)

I found joins to be slightly difficult, the last few questions on Wednesday’s HackerRank were difficult to solve. Refactoring was less of an issue, and I feel good about that topic.

What made you happy this week?

I painted pottery with friends this weekend! I painted a really cool mug and I get to pick it up next Saturday to see the final results. I’m very excited about it and had so much fun with my friends.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Some of the tips on how to be a better ally from the article were to:

Hire and support women and underrepresented minorities

Improve community culture for these groups

Increase awareness and inclusiveness in the workplace
